Cleaning is something that no one really likes to do. When you were living at home it was something that we tried so desperately to escape. It was something that our parents kept trying to force us to do. Now that we are in college, it has become something that we have to do. It is up to us to keep our rooms clean.
Living in a dorm has it’s perks when it comes to cleaning, You are equipped with a cleaning staff who cleans the hall ways, common rooms, and bathrooms every day (except the weekends). It is because of the cleaning ladies that I grew to appreciate cleaning more than I had before. Let me tell you guys a little bit about how important cleanliness is in college.
First off, let me state the obvious. A clean environment aids in a healthy immune system and promotes not getting sick. I feel that because this is so obvious people forget about and take this fact for granted. The cleaning crew is there to help promote cleanliness in the dorms, but there is only so much they can do.
The cleaning crew is there to clean the areas that everyone uses. It then becomes the responsibility of you and your roommate to keep your room clean. A messy, cluttered room can lead to disastrous situations. For instance, trying to turn in a paper. A lot of things can go wrong when trying to write a paper. Your computer could crash, it might not upload correctly to the online grader, or the email may not send. But just imagine losing the printed copy that you need to turn in to your professor. You could print out the paper and put it somewhere thinking you will remember where it is. Then, when it comes time to take it to class, you won’t be able to find it because it is buried under all the other piles of papers lying around the room. That is a scenario that can become a scary reality if you don’t keep your room tidy.
Another way an unclean room can cause problems is if you leave items scattered all over the floor. Not only will you not be able to find anything, you might possibly hurt yourself. If there is no space on the floor to walk about the room you are only setting yourself up for trouble. Think about this one. You wake up in the morning and are getting out of bed to brush your teeth. On your way to the bathroom you trip over one of your shoes that is lying in the middle of the floor. Luckily you are able to catch yourself before you hit your head on the bedpost. You might think this will not happen to you, but you never know what kind of odd events will occur.
Hopefully the above scenarios have opened your mind a little to how important keeping a clean room is in college. Not only will you run the risk of tripping or loosing papers, you might even get sick if you don’t dust your room. All that dust builds up fast! Cleaning is never pleasant, but sometimes it is all for the best.
