One of the most important things to go over with your roommate is to come up with a signal that means, “I have a guy/girl over, don’t you dare come in!” Whether it’s a t-shirt over the door knob, a simple text message, or barricading your door shut from the inside, it’s something that’s good to make sure you’re both clear on- because you can bet on being sexiled next year!

Sexiled, (verb): Getting kicked out of your dorm room by your roommate so that they can hook-up with someone. (To sexile someone means to kick your roommate out of your room.)

In high school, it was the backseat of the car. Or your room with your parents home, trying to stay as quiet as possible. Or behind your school’s football field bleachers in the middle of the night.

In college, it’s your dorm room, and it’s not just your dorm room. One of the best reasons to be super nice to your roommate throughout the year is so that they’ll leave when you give them that not so subtle hint.

Getting sexiled can be taken a bunch of different ways..

Option 1) You’re stoked that your roommate is getting some. In fact, you’ve helped your roommate get this guy/girl in the first place and are currently running up and down your dorm hall telling everyone. You’ve sexiled them so many times already, it’s about time your roommate finally got on the scoreboard.

Option 2) Your roommate has a girlfriend/boyfriend, and they’ve sexiled you for the 5th time this week. You really don’t care if your roommate gets it in at this point, but because, and only because your roommate bought you dinner the other night, did you agree to leave the room.

Option 3) It’s a Friday night, and yet again your roommate has texted you saying “I have a girl coming back with me don’t come back until 3″. Your parties over by 2, and you really don’t have anywhere else to go, but you hangout in a neighbors dorm playing video games until you get the all clear. You’re drunk, so it doesn’t matter too much.

Option 4) You’re just about to text your roommate saying you need the room, when they text you first saying they need it. Awkward. Time to get creative? Foursome?..Just kidding.

The best case scenario is one in which both you and your roommate have guys/girls over about the same number of times. If you’re sexiling your roommate as much as they’re sexiling you, then there won’t be any problems because it’s mutual. They want you out when they have someone over and you want them out when you have someone over. What you do while your sexiled is your problem. In my dorm it seemed like there would always be someone wondering around the dorm hall bored, just looking for something to do- typical of someone who’s sexiled.

In seriousness though, this is a good thing to talk over with your roommate at the start of the year. Just go over how often you expect you’ll be sexiling each other, and make sure you’re clear on rules for the room.
