What exactly is a pinning?
Well to first off it is between a sorority woman and a fraternity man who have been dating each other for a while and want to share and celebrate their love and relationship with their friends, sisters, and brothers.
It is like an engagement before an engagement.
Or it can be like a Greek version of a promise ring that can signify that they are in a seriously committed relationship. Every one in both houses show up for a ceremony at of the Greek house they are a part of. It starts off with their closest friends talking and giving us examples of their relationship.
There are no rules so anyone and everyone who is up there talking can say and show anything they want. It can be anything from their sex stories to how often they fight or how much they love each other. All of this information is shared amongst their brothers and sisters.
At the end of everyone’s short speech the couple gives there speech to one another and it often leads to tears and laughter. After they are done with the speech, the boyfriends removes his pin and puts it on the girl, this means that he is putting his girlfriend above his brothers and she is now a part of them.
After the ceremony that can take up to two hours listening to ridiculous stories there is a big celebration in honor of the couple. The party takes place at one of the live-outs and refreshments are always provided to get the party going.
So when you are in college and you are in a relationship with a fraternity man, think about whether or not you will think about being with him for a long time so you can get your fairytale pinning.
