So you bought all your supplies, sheets, and storage for your new dorm. But, you are missing one thing that will prove to be one of the most important items you will possess this year. You are missing snacks.
You are in college now and can’t rely on your parents being able to feed you dinner or walking right to the pantry to get food every time you are hungry. There are going to be times when you are hungry, but aren’t in the mood to walk to the dining halls to get a meal. This is where having snacks in your dorm will come in handy.
By keeping food in your room you won’t have to worry about falling into the stereotypical “starving college student”. This will allow you to always have something at your fingertips to tide you over until your next meal at the dining hall.
I would advise keeping a variety of foods in your dorm.
Make sure to have snacks for all hours of the day. I would say a few granola bars, instant oatmeal, or cereal for the mornings before class. These snacks are not too loud, so you won’t wake your roommate up if you need some fuel before heading off to start your day.
Next, I would make sure that there are some snacks such as goldfish or chips for when you get back to your dorm after classes. You know, some snacks for when your stomach is growling but it’s not quite dinner or you skipped lunch.
Another round of snacks should be the foods that you like to indulge yourself in every once in awhile. For me, this is sweets. When my parents sent me care packages, there was always a small bag of chocolate and a box of Cheez-its or goldfish.
Having snacks in your dorm can save you some money. Instead of having to go to a restaurant or the dining hall after coming back form a night out, you can open up your snack drawer and have some food. This allows you to save your “dining dollars” for more important things like actual meals and drinks.
All of the above reasons are great to have snacks in the room, but the most important time to have snacks in your room is when it comes time for finals. Finals is a time when you will be stressing yourself out. You will be studying for hour s and hours all day long. If you keep snacks in your dorm, you will be able to keep studying while you satisfy your needs. It is very important to take time out to eat a good meal, but when the study sessions last late into the night, having those snacks in the room will prove to be very handy.
Keeping snacks in the dorm is something that I, and probably every other college freshman, would recommend. If you choose to keep snacks of your own in your dorm, I’m sure you will see why this is something that is recommended.
