Face it: every girl wants to meet some cute guys, and the quicker, the better. While there are inevitably guys everywhere – literally – on campus, we don’t always get the chance to get to know them. However, if you take the right steps, you can totally befriend your favorite type of guys, whether they are bookworms or bros.
Bookworms: If you’re into smart guys, or hey, just want to be friends with some, the library is your best bet. For example, it’s super easy to strike up a conversation while in line at the printing station, and it’s a lot more common than you think. Intelligence is attractive; seek out guys, whether they are just friends or more than that, who have brains and braun. Bonus: In college,“bookworms” aren’t necessarily your stereotypical nerds lacking fashion sense and social skills. In college there are all types of guys that are conscientious of their grades and are cute and fun as well!
Athletes: It seems obvious that you’d meet athletes at the gym, but that’s not always your best bet. When you’re at the gym you feel sweaty and self-conscious, and who’s to say that your eye-candy across the room lifting weights doesn’t feel the same? No one likes awkward, sweaty first encounters. Instead, meet them at the dining hall, in a class, or just about anywhere. Typically you’ll recognize them because of their amazing physique…plus they love to wear their jerseys and warm ups. You can chat athletes up anywhere, and you never know when a “you excited for the big game tonight?” from you will turn into an invite to the best basketball party of the year from him.
Bros: While typically they fall into the previous category, there are bros who aren’t athletes (or aren’t athletes anymore). It’s always fun to meet bros at parties! Instead of just dancing with your girls while trying to catch the attention of cute guys, go right up to one and have a convo instead. Not only can you meet some chill guys, but bros are always down for a good time! Bonus: bros always know of great parties, so befriending them means you’ll always have a party to fall back on and some Natty Light to chug down. Just try not to become “that girl” – a laxtitute, soristitute, downright sloppy drunk – because a bad rep will follow you for a lot longer than you’d like it too.
GBFs: Also known as Gay Best Friends. For many girls, having a GBF these days is the equivalent of being eco-friendly: it’s both a movement and a social statement. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating. But the truth is that you will find tons of gay guys that have the potential to be good friends. There’s no set place to really meet your future GBF, however, they are very likely to compliment you on the fact that your Jeffrey Campbell heels look great with your Michael Kors purse.
Musicians: What girl doesn’t find a musician extremely sexy? Musicians are talented and passionate people – who wouldn’t want a hot guy around to sing them a song when they get down? You can find them lounging around your dorm playing their guitar, or even outside on the quad practicing their instrument of choice. Aim to find a guy with John Mayer appeal – minus John’s less than appealing personality.
The Boy Next Door: It’s always sweet to have a great boy next door. Like a girl next door, they are sweet, cute, and kind, but often get overlooked for hotter guys or stereotypical jerks. However, they make great friends (and more than friends)! You can find a great BND at a school-sponsored charity event, club, or sitting alone in the dining hall passing time on his Macbook. Or of course, you can find him….next door. If you have co-ed floors, that is.
